Empathy Intervention – Kady Tanaka

For most of the situations that make me upset, I try to see it through the eyes of other people which usually calms me down.

However, I never understood why people became so angry over really small things. Like minor inconveniences that happened to them, that took up no more than a minute of their day.

What I did not realize is that I was also like this, I was practically trained to always keep a schedule and stick to it. This made me extremely irritable and stressed out over the smallest change in plans.

What I have come to realize is that everyone is different; we all like and dislike different things. We all have different past experiences that have shaped us into the people we are today. Different things can cause stress or panic in different people based on previous experiences, causing them to become mad or lash out. Something that would have been no big deal to me could potentially have been a big deal for someone else, we can’t judge until we know the whole story.
