Empathy Intervention

Recognize when you “otherize” someone – when you [erroneously] see them as some completely not connected to you. Then cast the world through their eyes. What are they experiencing? Log the entire experience on the dedicated website. What you think, what you feel, what you learn. Students often have a difficult time with this. Empathizing with someone doesn’t mean you agree with them, or think that they are right. It just means you see things (at least for a moment) how you think they are seeing them.

Jack Crofton (empathy)

This intervention made me think a lot about the saying “do not attribute to malice what can be adequately explained by incompetence”. While the term incompetence may be a little harsh for most every day settings where this can be … Continue reading “Jack Crofton (empathy)” →

Empathy is something my parents were always hard on me for when I was younger. I was always quick to blame people and look down on people for messing things up, specifically my little sister. My parents were always quick … Continue reading “Andre Harnack” →
